To bad you weren't closer, I have a set of heavy duty steel 8 lug spoke wheels that I'd make a good deal on, like take em away! I hate to scrap them but sooner or later they gotta go!
I'm a little late to the party, but looking at the pic of new starter it looks like there is a crack in the plastic going downward from the 's' terminal . Did you use a backup wrench when tightening it? I don't remember but if that cracked perhaps the 's' terminal is making contact inside ?
For that one, you all know about THAT ONE! Soak it down with some light oil like WD40 and then either use DEANK's method (post 14) or lock on a set of vice grips and using a twisting motion and pull straight out, keep twisting. In real stubborn cases where the GP is severely swollen work in and...
If it's installed backwards, it will cause a restriction and overheating.
I've plowed snow with a few 6.2's and while working them always had fair to good heat (once engine warms up) driving down the road was a different thing! I almost always had a piece of plasticized carboard in front, then...

This just a guess and the only idea I can come up with , are absolutely positive that you have the correct transmission dipstick? If it was to long the fluid level would be low even when reading correctly.
The pumps will interchange, they are all 12volt! From what I understand the only diff is some parts in the military pumps are stainless steel and civvies are not.
Sounds to me like you have air leaking into the fuel line when shut off and that is allowing the fuel to drain back into the tank. I'd start by checking all the fuel lines and bleeders you used, I'd also keep a close eye on the engine oil level, if there is a leak in the new pump diaphragm that...
I have a 6.2 sitting in my garage and it's been there for years, I know it ran, but I pulled the oil pan off for another. I don't remember why but I also pulled the crankshaft and acquired a brand-new OEM one on a close out deal from a GM dealer. If interested feel free to reach out for a great...
