Yesterday was troubleshooting the brake light system. They worked, then suddenly they didn't. I checked all of the wiring and narrowed it down to the switch. I was getting 12v when I pressed the brake pedal, but no amperage. I couldn't imagine a simple mechanical switch failing in that manner.

Upon investigation, I found that the previous mechanic had "repaired" the wires going to the switch and had used stiff connectors on a 90° bend, and only 2 strands of metal were making the connection:

So I built a new wire connection with some good, water tight flexible connections.

After that it was time to do a little customization.

My daughter (who is the ultimate recipient of this truck) has no desire for blackout lights, so i didn't bother wiring them in.

I was looking at the BO drive light and had an idea.

I took this LED:

A dremel and extra wiring and a knob.

Putting it together with sealant after cutting the hole:

Wired it up and voila:

Next is setting timing and putting wire covers for the tail lights on etc

Good Deal!! Glad to hear that you found the bad spot in the wiring.
It makes you wonder though... Why?

Trust me... after some of the "repairs" this "professional" shop did, I would fire them all. Multiple wire runs using the same color wire for power and ground, among other things.

People like that, I refer to as "Hobby Electricians". Faults like that can drive you mad.
This work was done by a "professional" shop that specializes in restoration. 🤦‍♂️

So, got a chance to put the old timing light on her as I knew she was advanced....

8-10° BTDC is recommended.

She was around 12° AFTER TDC. Almost 25° out.

Brought her down and adjusted the idle and she runs much more.... calmly.
(Engine is off in this pic)
